Simrad PI Geometry

Installation principle

The Simrad PI Geometry sensor must be mounted at the exact centre of the headrope (or footrope) with the transducer facing forward. There must be a clear line of sight between the transducer on the PI Geometry sensor and the transducers on the two Mini-R responders. The two Mini-R responders are normally mounted in dedicated adapters on each trawl door, or by other means on the trawl wings

  1. The PI Geometry sensor is mounted behind the headrope at the top of the trawl opening, or behind the footrope at the bottom.
  2. The two Mini-R responders are normally mounted in dedicated adapters on the two trawl doors. They may also be mounted on the trawl wings.
  3. Communication links between the PI Geometry sensor and two Mini-R responders
  4. Communication link between the PI Geometry sensor and the PI hydrophone below the vessel hull

By measuring the distances between the PI Geometry sensor and each of the two Mini-R responders, the sensor system can compare them. The two distances “x” and “y” must have identical length. If the length of “x” or “y” changes, the trawl skewed. The message from the PI Geometry sensor to the PI system on the bridge will provide this information immediately.
